When the second film of theAvatarseries was about to be released, people weren’t convinced it would come close to its predecessor. But unsurprisingly, it did, while also making a staggering $2.3 Billion at the box office. Now, James Cameron has kicked into high gear and has taken the initiative to create a full-blown franchise from the series.

And for him, kicking into high gear means ramping up production at an unprecedented pace for the next films. Thus, it may not have been surprising to hear that the filmmaker has already completed the production of the third installment of the franchise. But what is interesting still is that now, the film may be going for two years in post-production for the final cut.

After the release ofAvatar: Way of Water,it was clear as the oceans on Pandora that people still wanted more from directorJames Cameronin the series, which became a contributing factor to his vision of a franchise. But almost like he could see all of this happen in the future, he had prepared for it in advance by completing the production of the third film in the franchise.

And now, the director is all said to bring the film into post-production, which seems to now be in effect till 2025.

In a recent interview with New Zealand’sTVNZ News 1, theTerminatordirector talked about how he came to Wellington, in 2009 for the creation of the first Avatar film, and what made him stay. Here, he also updated the audience about where the next movie of the series is in processing. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes that were witnessed this year, the third film was also a project that was rescheduled by Disney.

But as these strikes come to a close, the movie is returning to the editing room for post-production and is eyeing a late 2025 release window. He said:

“We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now, so it’ll be Christmas of 25.”

This news has got the fans hyped up, who have taken to X to express their excitement and anticipation for the upcoming film.

One thing I love about James Cameron is he cares about the VFX, most studios would’ve pushed them to get an early release date but James is that big of a movie maker that he tells the studios when he will drop the film & they listen to him.

The initial release date that was proposed by Cameron was for the Holiday season towards the end of 2024, but due to the aforementioned events, it was pushed back a year.

What Is Cameron’s Vision ForAvatar?

With the firstAvatarbeing released almost a decade and a half ago, people thought that Cameron’s vision may just have been too ambitious to achieve. But now, he has truly laid out what is on his mind about the storyline.

After the release of the latest film in the franchise, the filmmaker revealed that he has already finished penning the story for the franchise till its fifth installment, and has already completed the production of the third. His main goal with the story is to tell the entire tale and explore every aspect of Pandora till the epic conclusion arrives.
