The head of VFX at Marvel studios, Victoria Alonso was cut loose which solidifies the fact that Disney intends to bring about a change with a lot of things at Marvel. Along with her, many other employees were laid off as well and, recently another big name was announced, Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter. Perlmutter was sacked from the Entertainment chairman post in tune with the $5.5B cost-cutting campaign that Disney seems to be running. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger leads this movement after replacing former chairman, Bob Chapek who seemingly soiled Disney’s reputation on a public front.

Marvel’s Entertainment Chairman’s dismissal
Marvel‘s Entertainment Chairmen, Ike Perlmutter had always been a victim of controversy over his time, as he was termed to be biased towards ‘certain’ decisions. Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, nearly left to go to DC as Perlmutter allegedly refused to introduce a diversity of characters in the MCU.
Another such incident was in 2013 when changed the villain ofIron Man 3,from Rebecca Hall to Guy Pearce as he believed that female villains wouldn’t sell as much as male villains. Perlmutter was also inclined towards the initiative to bring an activist investor, Nelson Peltz to Disney’s corporate board which eventually sparked an internal mishap within the company.

Why Disney Sacked Victoria Alonso
Victoria Alonso was sacked from her post as Marvel’s president of physical production, post-production, VFX, and Animation after 23-year-long tenure. The reason behind this is due to a breach of conduct with her work inArgentina, 1985which was nominated for the Oscar award as well. Her attorney Patty Glaser gave a statement saying
“Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible.”

This incident relates to the situation withAnt-manand the Wasp: Quantumaniawas going to release. It was reported that Marvel executives ordered to blur a storefront window with a rainbow with ‘Pride’ written on it for the version to be released in Kuwait which has strict anti-LGBTQ laws. Victoria Alonso who is gay as well did not let her team do the edit, after which Marvel outsourced another editor to do the needful.
