All Four Shades and Their Voice Actors in Genshin Impact
Recently, HoYoverse released the Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: The Gods’ Limits on Genshin Impact’s social media platforms. This teaser provided a lot of important details about the RPG’s lore and showcased the Four Shades of the Heavenly Principles. Not only did the developer reveal the character designs of the Shades, but they also shared insight into their personality and announced their voice actors. Let’s look at everything currently known about the Four Shades of Heavenly Principles in Genshin Impact.

Four Shades in Genshin Impact: Design, Lore, and Voice Actors
The Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: The Gods’ Limits is one of the most exciting teasers for the title yet. It starts off with an old lady, possibly Anya M. Andersdotter, talking about the Four Shades and their dominions. Afterward, it provides fans with their first peek at the appearance of Ronova, followed by Rhinedottir/Naberius, and Istaroth. These characters have been mentioned in the lore already; however, this marks their first appearance in any media.
1. Ronova, Ruler of Death
Ronova is one of the Four Shades of Heavenly Principles and is the Ruler of Death. She is basically an emissary of Celestia who brings about the end of all life in Teyvat when the time comes. She was last mentioned in the Natlan Chapter of Archon Quest, where it was revealed that she established the rules of Natlan that allow fallen warriors to revive and created the Night Kingdom. It is said that doing so displeased the Heavenly Principles.
Following that, The Gods’ Limits Teaser has now revealed how Ronova looks in-game. She appears to be a white haired female draped in a black outfit, covered in the triquetra and eye motifs. Moreover, she has huge scarlet colored wings that also have the eye motif all over them, eerily similar to the Raiden Shogun statue in Inazuma.
The teaser also provides a glimpse of the events that occurred in Khaenri’ah prior to the game’s beginning. It shows that it was Ronova who destroyed the nation and then placed a curse of immortality on all pure-blooded Khaenri’ahns.
HoYoverse has announced that the following voice actors will voice Ronova for the various dubs:
2. Naberius/Rhinedottir, Ruler of Life
Naberius is called the Ruler of Life and is responsible for the creation of all life in Teyvat. Before the game’s events, Albedo’s mother, Rhinedottir, devoured Naberius’ heart and fused with her, becoming one of the Four Shades. Since then, both of them became one and have been serving the Heavenly Principles. The teaser showed them both as a blonde-haired female wearing a black and white outfit, which also includes a hood. However, the only difference between them is that Rhinedottir, aka Gold, has a golden aura to her, whereas Naberius has a blue-ish aura.
The teaser also revealed that it is Rhinedottir who currently controls the Ruler of Life’s powers, and Naberius has taken a backseat and often resorts to nagging the former to get her point across.

3. Istaroth, Ruler of Time
Istaroth has been confirmed to be one of the Four Shades of Heavenly Principles for a long time and has been mentioned in the lore of Mondstadt and Enkanomiya already. People used to worship her in Mondstadt during a different time, and she was the only one to hear the pleas of the people of Enkanomiya once they fell into darkness. As the Ruler of Time in Genshin Impact, Istaroth is also regarded as the Thousand Winds, which suggests that she is associated with Venti in some way. This is also evident by both characters sharing the same voice actors for all languages.

The teaser showcases Istaroth as a white haired female wearing a white and navy blue outfit with golden accents. She also seems to have braids on both sides of her face, similar to Venti.

4. Asmoday, Ruler of Space
Asmoday was the first Shade to appear in-game and was referred to as the Unknown God and Sustainer of Heavenly Principles previously. She is the Ruler of Space in the title and is the one who traps Aether and Lumine in Teyvat during the game’s beginning. Similar to the other Shades, she is also a white haired female draped in a white and black outfit with red accents.
Asmoday is also the only one of the Four Shades that does not appear in The Gods’ Limits Teaser. Istaroth speculates that she may have just switched sides and may be plotting against the Heavenly Principles. To this, Ronova retorts that doing so is unthinkable, and if it is true, then Asmoday must love her new master more than her own self.
