The Ryan Coogler directedMarvelfilm,Black Panther, has broken yet another record at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie in North America, surpassing 2012’sTheAvengers.
Black Panthercrossed $630 million domestically on Saturday, breaking the $623.4 million record held byThe Avengers.It is currently the sixth highest grossing film of all time. The film is now only the seventh movie to earn more than $600 million at the North American box office.
Currently,Black Pantherhas earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, expected to surpassIron Man 3at $1.214 billion by the end of the weekend, That would make it the third highest grossing comic-book film adaptation of all time at the global box office, behindThe Avengersat $1.5 billion, andAvengers: Age of Ultronat $1.4 billion.

Directed by Ryan Coogler,Black Panthersaw T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) assuming the Wakandan throne as Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) emerged from the shadows to challenge him. The film has become a cultural phenomenon, boosted by a cast that stars Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, and Winston Duke.
After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettleas king— and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
