Scarlett Johansson’s story as the Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, ended in 2021 with the movie that marked the end of an era for the assassin and the start of Yelena Belova’s story as she stepped into her sister’s shoes. Johansson first made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut withIron Man 2and went on to play the character up untilBlack Widow,which was a movie that took place before the events ofAvengers: Endgamewhere the character died eventually.
While rumors had stated that she would not be leaving the MCU even after her final movie as she would now be working as a producer, there have been talks about her returning to the franchise to produce shows based on the girls from the red room on Disney+.

Scarlett Johansson Might Be Returning To The MCU
Scarlett Johansson‘s legal battle with Disney had created an uproar amongst both the actors and the fans as it had seemed as if the actress would be completely cutting ties with Marvel Studios. However, the actress cleared the air by clarifying that she would still be working with them as a producer of future MCU projects and by the looks of it, aBlack Widowspinoff would be her next series.
At the time, Scarlett Johansson was reportedly working on a covert MCU project unrelated to the Black Widows, according to reports from Collider and others. However, that has changed. Florence Pugh’s rising fame and the news that, after years of rumors,Thunderboltsis finally coming out with Pugh as one of the leads are potential explanations for the change. Thunderbolts will undoubtedly take the MCU somewhere, and Black Widows will probably be involved somehow.

When Could Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow Project Take Place?
The project following the other Black Widows could take place with Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, going on to search for the scattered girls and the story could revolve around the aftereffects of the events ofBlack Widow.As of now, the only information about this project is the involvement of Scarlett Johansson that too as a producer. The cast remains unknown and so does the story.
Fans want to see Alexei, played by David Harbour; Melina, played by Rachel Weisz, Yelena and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster return to the MCU as their characters and for their story to evolve further. Much of Natasha’s story remains untold and so is the story of multiple other Black Widows. As Yelena kicks off her story fromBlack WidowtoHawkeyeand nowThunderbolts,her character could further be explored as well.
