In this guide, we explore the antagonists of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and introduce the most evil characters Thedas has ever known.
All these years after the Inquisition, players thought that the main antagonist of Dragon Age: The Veilguard would be Solas. At the end of Trespasser, Solas, the Dread Wolf, revealed his plan to tear down the Veil. He created the Veil to trap the evil elven gods; destroying it will also annihilate the world. Solas believes this sacrifice is necessary. He already did something similar once when he created the Veil. Despite his good intentions, his plan leads to everyone’s death and the world’s end. But not everything turned out as we had thought.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Evil Characters and Antagonists
However, the surprise came when we saw Varrick and Scout Harding, well-known characters from previous games, alongside the new Dragon Age: The Veilguard protagonist trying to stop Solas. In the gameplay reveal, Rook tries to stop Solas’ ritual to tear down the Veil by destroying statues used in the ritual. In fact, Solas was transferring Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain from their failing prison to a new one when the party disrupted the ritual, causing Solas to lose control. As a result, two figures rise in front of Solas, looking exactly like the ancient elven gods depicted in old mosaics and symbols.
These gods are Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, and they are not friendly. According to Dragon Age lore and what we learned from Solas in the Dragon Age Inquisition, these ancient elven gods are pure evil. Consequently, in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the main antagonists are accidentally released evil gods, the Evanuris. Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain are unhappy about being trapped behind the Veil for all those years. They are also likely furious with Solas, who is responsible for their prison.
This raises the question: will Solas, previously expected to be the main antagonist, now join the resistance against these evil gods? As a result, players can expect a significant threat from these ancient gods, making them the main focus of the resistance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The Elven Gods – Evanuris
Released Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain are some of the most evil gods in the elven pantheon. They will undoubtedly bring disaster to Thedas as they seek revenge and domination after being trapped for so long. They remember a different world, where they had slaves and were worshiped. The current state of Thedas is most likely unfamiliar to them, and just like Solas, they may seek to bring “their old elven world.” Except while Solas had a plan to “destroy the world,” he constantly claimed he would do it in the most gentle way possible. He definitely never was cruel, which we can’t say about other Evanuris. Will Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain be the only evil characters and main antagonists of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, or will they try to release others?
Evanuris, The Elven Pantheon includes:
*Geldauran, Daern’thal, and Anaris are known as the Forgotten Ones – in elven mythology, they are considered the “evil gods.” We have little information about them. However, now we know that all elven gods were, in fact, pure evil characters, so the true nature of the Forgotten Ones remains a mystery, and it’s likely that it’s not so simple.
