Sharon Stone’s performance inBasic Instinctwas outstanding and even in 2023, it remains one of the most talked about performances in the history of Hollywood. Her portrayal of the villainous Catherine Trammell radiated confidence and seduction. During an exclusive interview with Movie Web,Sharon Stonerecalled how the studio was thinking of replacing her in the film’s sequel as she was nearly 48 years old. And she was called in to talk about the studio’s idea.

“They had all these different ideas. They even sold it to a different producer who wanted to make it with a different actress. He called me in to have a meeting, and talk to me about it, and I explained to him, ‘Great idea, let’s do it.’”
However, during the meeting, she freaked out the producer ofBasic Instinct 2, as she stated that she would love to talk about her substitute on the matter. Her suggestion freaked out the producer and dissuade the idea of replacing the actress.

“I said, ‘Great idea, let me tell you my take on the character and if you want me to take her out to lunch and talk to her about it, I will. She’s great.’ And then he got completely freaked out.”
Although she stated how she avoided getting replaced in the sequel, she decided not to reveal the name of the actress that almost replaced her. Moreover, to replace the success of the first film, Stone pitched the idea to replicate the tone of the first film for the sequel as well.
