Netflix’sOne Piecehas received a lot of positive feedback from fans and critics, along with garnering huge success on the platform itself. The live-action has been soaring on Netflix’s top 10 for weeks now. This adaptation has ignited a spark in TikTok, which helped its influence over fans.

Two Executive Producers on the series, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, talked about the audition for the cast and several other aspects of the show in a recent interview. They revealed just how many actors were trying for the Protagonist’s role, Monkey D. Luffy.

The executive producer revealed to theDeadlinejust how many actors were auditioning for Monkey D. Luffy’s role, who was the protagonist ofOne Piece,“Definitely over 100, from all corners of the world. We really tried to stay true to the backstory. The origin of all the characters that Oda created; we were focused on supporting that.”

Clement also talked about Iñaki Godoy’s reaction to winning Luffy’s roles with theDeadline,“I believe he screamed. He definitely laughed. He was on Zoom with us, he thanked everyone, and he said he will give it his all. And then when we said, how is your family feeling about this, and do your parents have any questions about production — because I think he was just 18, he was very young when he got the role — at that moment, he pulled his mother into the frame of the Zoom and said, ‘Well, my mom’s right here, she can ask questions’. And we just knew at that moment, what a great young man to have his parents sitting right next to him after he got the good news.”
Clement also expressed his thoughts on the selection of Godoy as Luffy. They were quite satisfied with the cast and believed that he was the best suited for portraying Monkey D. Luffy.

Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, executive producers ofNetflix’sOne Piecefrom the Tomorrow Studios, were interviewed by Deadline. They opened up about how TikTok influenced the fate of the series to some extent as skeptical fans of the manga and anime started watching the live-action.

“Both Becky and I have been involved in a lot of successful shows. But in your career, you dream about one like this,”Adelstein toldDeadline, who has worked on several other shows like Last Man Standing, Prison Break, and Teen Wolf.“And if you’re lucky you get one like this that resonates so large, and there’s such awareness of, and people have a love of the source material.”
These two experienced TV producers also thought of utilizing the pirate ships originally created for Starz’s Black Sails in South Africa. They also talked about their adored moments from Season 1 in the interview and how the ending opens up several opportunities for a potential season 2.
