Ben Affleck’s career saw a low point when he starred in the role of Matt Murdock inDaredevilback in 2003. Panned as one of the worst superhero movies of all time. Well, Matt Damon revealed that the role was initially offered to him but he let theGone Girlactor take the role for a reason.

Well, it wasn’t as if Damon wanted to intentionally see Ben Affleck fall in Hollywood that he gave up on the role of Daredevil, but he did give it up back in 2003. In an interview,The Martianactor revealed that he did not like the script at all when he was initially offered the role.

Damon stated that he did not like the script and he did not know the director (Mark Steven Johnson) at that time. The actor did reveal that growing up, he and Affleck’s favorite superhero was indeed Matt Murdock aka Daredevil but he had to pass on the opportunity.Ben Affleck, however, jumped on the opportunity without thinking. Matt Damon shared withABC News
“Daredevil, that was our guy when we were growing up, that was our favorite superhero … I didn’t love the script and I didn’t know the director, he hadn’t really done anything. So, I just tried to divorce my emotion from [it]. Ben [Affleck] is more of an emotional guy, he was like, ‘Daredevil!’ He just went and did it.”

As for theBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceactor, he did not have many regrets about the movie. Stating that he had fun working on the sets ofDaredevil.

In a clip from the documentaryCinemability: The Art of Inclusion,Affleck was seen talking about starring in the iconic 2003 movie. As per the clip, theGone Girlactor hilariously recounted that he thought the entire movie was quite silly.

During his talks, the actor revealed that he got the opportunity to work with Tom Sullivan, a blind performer who trained Affleck on“what it felt like”to be blind. The actor stated that that was the most interesting part while shooting the entirety of the movie. In the end,Daredevilreceived a rating of 5.3/10 on IMDB and 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2003 movie is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
