Bird Boxbecame one of the most popular and celebrated horror and mystery thriller on Netflix. Starring Sandra Bullock, critics proclaimed the film’s success was given thanks to her being part of the cast. Seeing the success, soon enough a sequel or more like a spinoff was planned.
However, the film has received mediocre results at best, with many calling it to be ‘unneeded’ and ‘unnecessary’ to add to the narrative. Many fans even expressed their disappointment over the absence of Sandra Bullock in the movie, since it was her stellar performance in the first which made it a success. And now the director has revealed the reason why.

What makes or breaks a film depends upon the storyline, performance of the actors, marketing, and much more. But if the movie has a star in the cast, most of the time, the film is a given success. And so it happened with the firstBird Box, where fans adoredSandra Bullock‘s acting along with the fresh storyline.
However, theGravityactress was absent from the sequel/spinoffBird Box Barcelonawhich was released just a while ago. While fans questioned the decision to not have her in the sequel despite her excellent performance, the director, David Pastor finally revealed the reason why,
“I don’t think that was ever discussed. I mean, the beauty about doing this sort of expansion of the franchise was that we had absolute freedom to just do whatever we wanted. We were not tied to the original movie beyond respecting the rules of the world and making sure that the movie was consistent with what happened in the first movie.”
While we understand the rationale behind the decision, one cannot help but wonder thatBird Box Barcelonamight have received better reactions had it starred Sandra Bullock.

Fans BlastBird Box BarcelonaAs Completely Unnecessary
Bird Box Barcelonahas so far received mixed reactions from critics and the audience. Many have been calling it uninteresting and lacking the originality of the first one. Critics even called it as lacking any definite storyline, the film seems to be a mediocre re-conceptualization of the original one but devoid of any interesting characteristics.
While the director, David Pastor said it can be watched as a standalone film as well, fans blasted it as being technically nothing, a story that doesn’t connect nor makes any sense. Some even went ahead to repeat that the film would have done much better had it starred Sandra Bullock.
