Arnold Schwarzenegger invoked his close ties with Russia and spoke about the various casualties that Ukrainians had faced during the invasion and the narrative that the powers that be in Russia were putting forth. Addressing the need to speak out during a humanitarian crisis, Schwarzenegger brought up his father’s ties to the Nazi party during the Second World War and how it became dangerous for him. He said,

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Ties To Russia
In the mentioned video message, Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke about his relationship with Russia. He brought up legendary bodybuilder and weightlifter Yuri Vlasov, and how the actor had met him when he was a fourteen-year-old boy and had seen him lift 200kgs of weights. Schwarzenegger cited him as an inspiration in his own bodybuilding career and apparently had a photo of him on his wall, to the dismay of his father. He said in the video,
“My father told me to take down that picture and to find a German non-Austrian hero. He got really angry and we argued back and forth. He didn’t like Russians because of his experience in the Second World War…but I did not take the photograph down. Because it didn’t matter to me what flag Yuri Vlasov carried.”
Schwarzenegger had also reportedly owned a bunch of head busts of Soviet-era leaders. He reportedly asked some of his Russian wrestler friends to send him busts of Vladimir Lenin after the fall of the Soviet Union, but they kept sending him everything they could find, much to his then-wife Maria Shriver’s dismay. He said toNews Hub,
“They sent me this bust of Lenin but the problem was, they kept sending me more and more statues. I’d put them by the pool at home…Maria thought I was crazy: ‘Why do we have all these Soviet statues around our swimming pool?’ She had them all carted away. But I kept Lenin since he was the first.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger is reported also as one of only twenty-two accounts that President of Russia Vladimir Putin follows on X (formerly Twitter).
