While Superman may be one of the strongest and most overpowered beings in existence, the only one who can melt his heart is the love of his life, a human woman named Lois Lane. The character has been a constant companion of his in the DC Comics, and recently, Amy Adams was the face of Lane in the DCEU.
With her first appearance as a journalist for The Daily Planet, she has been the anchor that has kept the Son of Krypton rooted in this world and showed him what happiness is all about. But before playing such an integral role in the now-discontinued DC franchise, there was a time when Adams was supposed to play this character in the previous Superman film with Brandon Routh.
Amy Adams Could’ve Been Lois Lane InSuperman Returns
Before making her first appearance in DCEU’sMan of Steelin 2013 and subsequently in other films in the franchise untilJustice League,Amy Adamswas a candidate for the role of Lois Lane in another film about the superhero. With the decision to continue the legacy of Christopher Reeve, Warner Bros. decided to makeSuperman Returns.
This 2006 film, which starred Brandon Routh as the titular Kryptonian and Bryan Singer as the director kept the role of Lane open for the one who could bag it.
In a past interview withInterview Magazine, theAmerican Hustlestar opened up about the time she was preparing herself to audition for the role of Superman’s love interest in the 2006 film. She revealed that there were different times when she auditioned with different crew since the production kept changing hands from one director to the other.
The last time she auditioned was with Singer at the director’s chair, but as luck would have it, she was not the one who got the role and was instead given to Kate Bosworth. Adams said:
“I had screen-tested at various points over the years with Matt Bomer and Paul Walker when it was attached to different directors and there were different teams involved. Then, I read again when Bryan Singer was brought on.”
While she may have lost the role back then, seven years later, she was scouted for the same role, this time withHenry Cavillas the superhero, and she didn’t lose it.

Following the events ofSuperman IV: The Quest for Peace, where the superhero is seen returning to his home world of Krypton to examine it,Superman Returnstells the tale of the hero’s return to humanity. But once he comes back home, he finds out that this is not the same planet today that he had left five years back.
As he comes back to Earth, he finds out that there have been a lot of changes that have almost nullified the reason for his existence in modern times. What’s more, Lois Lane has moved on and is in a relationship with someone else. Now, in a new world, Clark Kent is once again left to find meaning in his life.
