Actress Charlize Theron revealed that she nearly ended her career after suffering a serious injury on the set of the 2005 sci-fi filmAeon Flux.Despite the devastating injury, Theron was determined to finish what she started. After three months of recovery, she returned to the set ofAeon Flux. to complete filming her scenes. Freak Accident Occurs During Stunt Sequence
The injury occurred during filming of a stunt sequence for the $52 million Paramount Pictures release. Theron was performing her own stunts for the action film based on the 1990s animated series. During one particular stunt, Theron was wrapped in wire rigging that was supposed to yank her in the air. However, something went terribly wrong.
“The wire snapped and I landed on my neck. I was paralyzed for a week,”Theron said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The freak accident could have left Theron paralyzed for life. After the initial paralysis wore off,Charlize Theronwas forced to spend months in recovery. She underwent intense physical therapy to regain strength and mobility. During that difficult period, the Oscar winner thought her acting career was over.

Aeon Flux Flops at the Box Office
WhenAeon Flux.debuted in theaters in December 2005, it was both a critical and commercial failure. Made on a budget of $52 million, the film grossed just $52 million worldwide. It also earned weak reviews, with critics panning its nonsensical plot and overuse of visual effects.
The film’s failure was disappointing for Theron, who had hoped forAeon Flux.would cement her status as an action star after her Oscar-winning performance in 2003’sMonster. While the shoot was physically grueling for Theron, the poor reception marked a low point in her esteemed career.“I really thought that was it. It was a near-death experience, really frightening,”Theron said. The extensive injuries and grueling rehab process nearly caused Theron to leave the film business entirely.
