Quentin Tarantino is a man of many opinions. He is a man unafraid to speak the truth about cinema and he is someone who displays with his movies that cinema is far from achieving its goals the way it boasts about. From making some of the most incredible and critically acclaimed movies to becoming the face of quality cinema, Tarantino has achieved various accolades for his contributions to the Hollywood industry.
When it comes to his contributions, there is a solid difference between his appreciation of certain movies and his distaste for others. There are times when he cannot resonate with the movies made in today’s time due to reasons that many people in the audience also agree with. In consideration with that, Tarantino refused to name any movie of the current decade that he liked because he did not want to be on anyone’s bad side.

Quentin Tarantino Refused to Name Names
During an interview, viaOutstanding Screenplays,Quentin Tarantinorevealed that there was a deep understanding within him that prevented him from naming any of his favorite movies of this decade. The reason for the same was that he believed that it would be as if he was picking sides.
“I’ve seen a few things but I don’t really want to talk about new stuff.” Tarantino continued, “I don’t want to say anything bad about anybody else’s movie because that’s me like attacking them like an ambush. And I’m not here to cheerlead for anybody else’s sht either. Directors can’t talk about bad about anybody else’s stuff. That’s unfair. So everything is about cheerleading. I’m fcking tired of cheerleading.”
He explained that in terms of cheerleading, he would either be bad-mouthing one movie or appreciating another. Something like that would be considered bad seeing that another director is criticizing someone else’s work.

Quentin Tarantino has an Interesting View of Cinema
In the interview via Outstanding Screenplay, Quentin Tarantino expressed that things in cinema go in constant motion in relation to the oscillations of a pendulum. He spoke about how there is a good side and a bad side to cinema, labeling it as a repressive time.
“It makes the 80’s look f*cking great. We’re living through another repressive time when it comes to cinema. First really big repressive time was the 50s. Then we skipped the generation with the 60s. But then we got the 70s but then the pendulum had to swing back for the 80s. And then the pendulum swung the other way again for the 90s. I mean I lived through the 90s making movies in the 90s. I didn’t consider the 90s the 70s part two, but it was. On retrospect it absolutely was. Now the pendulum has swung this way again.”
Oscillating from one side to another, cinema too has had a good decade and a bad decade. It grows just as it falls. He stated that currently, cinema lives in a repressive age, one that he is desperately hoping to see change.
