Keira Knightley is an amazing actress on-screen, but she has an even better personality off-screen. A real-to-the-core and super down-to-earth celebrity, she always mesmerizes her audiences: be it just with her incredible presence or her exceptionally comedic stories. Just like the one time, she hilariously left her fans laughing like mad over something absurdly stupid.
This goes back to when she received a letter from the ‘Home Office’. And since theStar Warsstar had never gotten anything like that ever before, she found herself stricken with fear over it for two whole days thinking she messed up really bad – until she finally opened the envelope to find a stunning surprise inside of it!

Keira Knightley is a tremendous on-screen presence, agreed, but she also never ceases to amuse her fans. Appearing onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert,she shared the time when she once freaked out after getting a letter from the ‘Home Office’ for something special. Explaining how she got it, she said,
“You get a letter and it looks absolutely terrifying because it’s got ‘Home Office’ stamped on it everywhere. And that’s part of the British government, the Home Office. It’s the scary bit. It’s like the really serious like serious bit. You’ve murdered someone, something horrific has happened.”
Genuinely petrified, thePride and Prejudicestar thought she messed everything up really badly.
“It came through the post and I thought, ‘I have really messed up my tax. I’ve messed up my tax and they’re gonna take the house and everything is awful and this is awful.'”
Confused and panic-stricken, Knightley even hid it from her husband because she didn’t know how to break it out to him. In fact, she didn’t open the letter for two whole days!
“I didn’t open it for two days because I was so panicking. I hid it from my husband, like, I don’t understand [what to do]. It was hidden; I literally hid it. Because I honestly thought, ‘How do I break this to him that we’re gonna lose and everything and I’ve just messed up everything?'”
So what didKeira Knightleyend up doing with the strange letter that held a surprise for her (which she obviously was unaware of)?

What The ‘Scary’ Letter Held In Store For Keira Knightly
However, after calming down a bit after two days, Keira Knightley realized that she actually needed to open the envelope to figure out what she did wrong. Continuing, she said onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert:
“I finally thought, ‘Okay, come on, I’m a mother. I need to, like, really open this envelope.’ And I opened it, and it was a prize!”
She then went on to explain the accolade that she was actually rewarded with. She said,
“I’m awarded something called an O.B.E., which means that I’m an Officer of the British Empire. I mean, I wasn’t actually aware that Britain still had an Empire, but it’s nice to be an officer of it anyway. [The award] is a tiny little Empire but I’m an officer.”
Not only this, but theStar Warsactress was also on the ‘Queen’s Birthday Honors List’ for Queen Elizabeth’s birthday event back in June 2018. Turns out Keira Knightley was endowed with a tremendous honor that she truly deserves!
