James Cameron is a name synonymous with box office success, having directed three films that have grossed over $2 billion each. James Cameron, in a podcast interview, shared that he had a humble start in his career and had to work odd jobs to make ends meet. One of the jobs he took on was driving a truck. Despite the challenges and difficulties he faced, Cameron never gave up on his passion for filmmaking. He took it upon himself to educate himself about the craft, studying and researching everything he could about filmmaking and equipment, using only $120 dollars. He thus gave himself a college education in filmmaking and this helped him to develop his skills and knowledge, which eventually led to the creation of some of the most iconic films in the industry.
“I was working as a truck driver on the weekends I used to drive down to USC and I go in and for cost of the xerox I would xerox all these doctoral dissertations on optical printing, film stuff, film emulsion and all that stuff, build up like all these binders of like how everything worked, I was a total gearhead. So I gave myself like a full college education for about a $120 dollars.“

He says he was just 24 or 25 years old at the time. He also mentions his first work as a filmmaker in the movie,Piranha 2. He states that he was fired in just 10 days.
“I got hired to do this film called Piranha 2 and they fired me after 10 days”
With his share of struggles and failures, he sure rode to the top of the industry and proved his worth and talent.
