The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest superheroes had to join hands inAvengers: Endgameto stop Josh Brolin’s Thanos, the most fierce supervillain Marvel fans have ever witnessed. For a period, the Mad Titan even succeeded in his mission of wiping out half of the Universe’s population, and it took time-traveling and Iron Man’s Infinity snap to put the villain at peace for the second time.

However, a new trailer of Brie Larson’sThe Marvelssuggests that fans, who thought Iron Man’s ultimate sacrifice was enough and that the 2019 movie was the last of Thanos, might be in for a shock.

Marvel Excites Fans by Teasing the Return of Josh Brolin’s Thanos in Brie Larson’s Movie
Brie Larsonis returning as Carol Danvers withThe Marvelswhich will also feature Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). As per the synopsis, the trio find their powers entangled and are subsequently forced to work together.
Captain Marvel (2019)was a ground-breaking movie, introducing fans of the MCU to the first stand-alone female superhero film. The Larson-led movie shined, grossing more than $1 billion at the box office. However, predictions for the sequel are far from impressive.

As per a report inThe Hollywood Reporter,The Marvels, which is scheduled to hit the theaters on November 10, is tracking to open in the $75 million to $80 million range. In comparison,Captain Marvelopened to $153.4 million domestically, not adjusted for inflation. Whether the prediction is because of the ongoing strikes or superhero fatigue – which has eaten the earnings of many such movies throughout the summer – it’s bound to frustrateThe Marvelsmakers.
However, a new trailer from the movie has spiked the interest of viewers by teasing the potential return ofJosh Brolin‘s Thanos.

In thevideo, there isn’t any scene involving the supervillain, but a dialogue can be heard in the background, as Thanos threatens,“There will always be more to finish my work.”
Whether this was Marvel spoiling his return or simply using the Mad Titan’s lines to generate hype remains unclear.

What Josh Brolin Said About Returning to MCU as Thanos
Marvel Studios are building Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror as their next big supervillain ahead ofAvengers: Secret Wars. However, in their universe, there’s always room for more chaos. In that regard, they could do a lot worse than bring back Thanos.
Brolin, who also played the role of Cable in Ryan Reynolds’Deadpoolfranchise – which is set to enter Marvel Phase 5 – is open to return as Thanos. Speaking to Sirius XM’s Jess Cagle Show (viaDigital Spy) in 2022, he said:
“It’s not that I don’t have an interest. They have their own trajectory that they’re worrying about, and if they want me to do it, I would do it I’m sure. But I don’t know what they’re thinking.”
While the idea of Brolin’s return is certainly interesting, Marvel figureheads will hope their current villains manage to aptly fight their superheroes and dominate the box office on their own, starting with Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) inThe Marvels.
