Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionis a blockbuster show. However, there were several changes made to the original manga and anime. One of the changes that was made was cutting down Usopp’s long nose into a normal-sized nose. It was since theOne Pieceshowrunner thought that it would be unintentionally comical.

One Piece Live Actionhas broken the chain of live adaptation failures. The anime fans were scared, thinking that their favorite anime would be deemed a flop. But the whole cast proved them wrong. With Eiichiro Oda on the production and development team, it was found to be a hit. The fans even loved the fact that Jacob Gibson’s Usopp had a normal-sized nose, which was made by Steven Maeda.
Steven Maeda Made Usopp’s Nose Normal-Sized
Steven Maeda, the showrunner of Netflix’sOne Piece Live Action, thought it would be unintentionally comical to give Jacob Gibson a comic-accurate Usopp nose. Recently, Steven Maeda gave an interview to Variety. Over there, he mentioned the small changes that were made to make the show more approachable to the viewers. Usopp’s nose was one such change.

Steven Maeda said toVariety,“It’s not long in the show — it’s a normal size nose. I felt that the nose was going to be unintentionally comical in a way that would distract from the character.”From the showrunner’s standpoint, it was kind of a gamble to change such an important detail. But it paid off.
Using a prosthetic nose might make Jacob Gibson uncomfortable, which would have been bad for the show since he was a main part of the Strawhats. Just like Jacob Gibson’s Usopp’s long nose, he also disposed of Taz Skylar’s Sanji’s curly eyebrows. It looks like Steven Maeda has advanced Observation Haki. That is why he could see how these changes would be great assets to the show.

Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionhas garnered massive numbers of viewers. More than 145 million people have streamed it, and it has been streamed in more than 93 countries. For the first few days, the show was ranked number 1 on Netflix’s top 10 shows. This was certainly one of the best shows of 2023.
Netflix has already declared that the show will be renewed for a second season. Eiichiro Oda is the one who revealed the news to the fans, along with a little hint that Tony Tony Chopper will be introduced in season 2. Even after such great news, there is still a certain portion of our hearts that still longs for the long-nosed Usopp. It would have been interesting to see such an unintentionally comical Usopp.
