ActorMichael Shannonplayed the role of supervillain Zod in Henry Cavill’sMan of Steel. But he was killed by Superman in the film. In the climax scene, an elaborate fight scene was constructed with battle through the street, sky, and the high-rise buildings of Metropolis, where Superman snapped Zod’s neck.

Hence, the return of the villain ten years later in the newFlashmovie has left the fans stunned. According to the plot of the film, the Kryptonian general has made his way back to the present due to the multiverse phenomenon.

General Zod

In a conversation with Vanity Fair, Michael Shannon discussed Zod’s death inMan of Steel,

“So, ‘The Flash’ comes around. As I recall, at the end of ‘Man of Steel,’ Superman breaks my neck and kills me, which was the cause of much consternation among some fans because Superman’s not supposed to kill people. But I say to Superman, ‘It’s either me or you,’ so he has to do it.”

Shannon shared that he was quite surprised when he received a call to reprise his role inThe Flash,

“So then I get this call, I’m like, ‘They saw ‘Man of Steel,’ right?’ And my manager’s like, ‘Yeah, they saw ‘Man of Steel,’ but it’s different.’ I’m like, ‘What is it?’ ‘It’s a Multiverse.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know what that means.’”

Michael Shannon talks about his limited presence in Ezra Miller’sThe Flash

The actor shared that his role in the upcoming movie is not as elaborate as inHenry Cavill’s film. He recalled his tough preparations for playing the Kryptonian General in the 2013 flick. He said,

“It was a very different thing because, like, ‘Man of Steel,’ it was like a year of my life between the training, we did a whole summer of physical training leading up to the shooting and the shoot was, like, six months long or something. I was in and out of ‘Flash’ in like, like a flash, like two or three weeks. That’s it.”

“’The Flash’ isn’t my story, you know, I’m there as an adversary, a threat, a problem to be dealt with. ‘The Flash’ is really The Flash’s story.”

Michael Shannon has earlier also spoken about his appearance inTheFlashand how it was confusing as his character died in the past film,

“I was a little confused. I said, “As memory serves me, I think I died in ‘Man of Steel.’ Are they sure they got the right guy?” But then they explained to me the whole multiverse phenomenon, which … I was a little behind the times on that. I can’t say that I’m a huge consumer of this genre of films — not that I have anything against them. If I’m going to watch a movie, the odds are it’s not going to be one of those, but I sure love making them.”

Though actor Michael Shannon enjoyed playing the role of Zod in DC movies, however, it seemsThe Flashwould be the last film for his character. As per the plot, he is only alive because protagonist Barry Allen had meddled with history by traveling back in time. But as Allen and his team would tackle the situation in the film, Zod’s chapter will be over for good.

Ezra Miller‘sThe Flashwill release in theaters on Friday, June 16.
