In 2021, Hollywood star Christina Applegate shocked viewers and fans with the tragic announcement about her health condition. TheAnchormanstar revealed on social media that she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.

A progressively debilitating condition, Multiple Sclerosis or MS took a huge toll on Applegate, not just physically and emotionally, but from a career point of view as well. The celebrity spoke of the challenges she faced while filming the final season of her hit showDead to Me,during which she was diagnosed. This setback also led her to the realization that this may be her last time in front of the camera.

Christina Applegate’s saddening MS diagnosis in 2021 was a real shock to the actor and her fans across the world. The disease also took a big toll on theVacationstar’s successful career, while causing her immense physical and emotional pain as well. Applegate, who was filming the final season of her hit showDead to Mewhen she was diagnosed, spoke of the trauma of working on a film set while suffering from an illness. In a candid revelation toVanity Fair,she put things in perspective and said,

“It’s exhausting. Imagine just being in a crowd of people and how loud that is. It’s like 5,000 times louder for anyone who has lesions on their brains”.

The struggle she faced made Applegate come to terms with the fact that this was possibly the end of her acting career. As depressing as that was to digest, theMarried with Childrenactor confessed that there was a certain sense of relief on realizing and accepting that she need not put her body through more torture than she was already enduring.

From being a successful star to being affected by Multiple Sclerosis, Christina Applegate’s life has taken a drastic turn over the past two years. TheAnchormanstar had to modify her life completely to manage her condition while also coming to terms with the fact that the simplest of tasks now looked like scaling Mount Everest. In an emotional confession toVanity Fair,Applegate revealed,

“You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there. There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things — you can’t do that.”

TheDead to Meactor went on to add that she was learning to cope with MS one day at a time but said that at present, the bad days outweighed the good days. Applegate hoped that with time, this could be reversed.
