In 2005, the actor appeared in the American neo-Western romantic drama filmBrokeback Mountain, in which he played the role of Jack Twist opposite late actor Heath Ledger, who depicted the character of Ennis Del Mar. As reported byEmpire Online, the actor once revealed that he was flattered by the rumors that claimed“he’s bisexual”after sharing intimate scenes with his co-star Ledger in the flick.
However, the 42-year-old star clearly stated that he never felt any attraction towards men, noting he wouldn’t be afraid if it happened. As per Empire Online, he said,

“You know it’s flattering when there’s a rumor that says I’m bisexual, It means I can play more kinds of roles. I’m open to whatever people want to call me. I’ve never really been attracted to men s**ually, but I don’t think I would be afraid of it if it happened.”

In an interview withVanity Fair,Jake Gyllenhaalopened up about his experience working in his award-winning filmBrokeback Mountain. The actor shared that he enjoyed working on this project, saying,
“There’s so much to say about this movie. There’s even more for me to say about my experience of it. There’s even more for me to say about the reaction to it and what it meant, and what happens when you realize, as a performer in particular, that something has nothing to do with you… the power beyond anything that you think you have control over or part of goes out into the world, it becomes everyone else’s. And so, you have a short time with it, and that’s my job and my honor to do, and then it is everyone else’s, and it is no longer mine. And there is no film that I’ve ever done that has shown that to me more than Brokeback Mountain.”
