Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionhas set the records straight for the anime live adaptation genre. Everyone was satisfied with the series and applauded it for its outstanding performances. Several changes were made to the original story, with the introduction of Nami and Zoro being the most notable ones. Both of them were introduced much earlier in the shows, thanks toOne Pieceshowrunner Steven Maeda.

Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionhas been deemed to be a super hit series, and people of every age have loved it. TheOne Piecefans were pleased since it broke the anime live adaptation curse. A few changes here and there created a unique identity for the series and not just a copied series. One of the significant changes made was Nami and Zoro’s early introduction.
Emily Rudd’s Nami and Mackenyu’s Roronoa Zoro Were Introduced Together
In the anime, people will see that Nami and Zoro were introduced separately. Even though there was not much gap, Eiichiro Oda made sure to leave a gap. ButOne Piece Live Actiondid not follow that path. It introduced Nami and Roronoa Zoro at the same time to make it a more impactful scene. During an interview with Collider,One Pieceshowrunner Steven Maeda revealed the reason for such a significant change.

Steven Maeda said toCollider,
“Story-wise and in script, a decision was made pretty early to introduce them together and around the same time and focus that all around Luffy trying to get into the marine base in Shells Town. So, it felt like an opportunity to jump-start, a little bit, the beginning of Luffy starting to pull in his crew as opposed to doing it separately, the way it’s done in the manga. There was an opportunity to compact there in a way that still felt really natural.”

Apart from introducing Emily Rudd’s Nami and Mackenyu’s Roronoa Zoro at the same time, everything else was done at an average pace. Zoro being tied at a cross at a Navy Base, Nami being a thief, and Luffy wanting to recruit them are the same as the anime. Even their claiming that they are not a crew gives out nostalgic vibes to theOne Piecefans.

The idea of bringing the Strawhats early in the series was not limited to Nami and Zoro. Jacob Romero’s Usopp and Taz Skylar’s Sanji were also introduced quite early in the series. It was a good move for the team since the series cannot be stretched like the anime. Moreover, Eiichiro Oda thought it was okay, so it was done.
Since Netflix has renewedOne Piece Live Actionfor a second season, we might be able to see a few characters much before their actual introduction time. With Tony Tony Chopper hinted to make his live-action debut in the upcoming season, it will be interesting to see when he comes on screen. Maybe the fans will get to experience another ‘Jump Start’ right at the beginning. People who are yet to watch the series can streamOne Piece Live Actionon Netflix.
