Amazon Studios has ordered a Jack Reacher tv series, adapted from Lee Child’s series of 24 action novels.

The show will be produced by Amazon Studios, Skydance, and Paramount Television. Season 1 will be based on 1997’s novelThe Killing Floor, the first story featuring Jack Reacher and Lee Child’s debut novel. For this first volume, Lee Child was awarded the Anthony Award and Barry Award for the best first novel.

Executive producer, writer, and showrunner for the Amazon original, Nick Santora (The Sopranos,Prison Break), said “Lee Child has created an incredible character and world; it will be the goal of every writer, producer, actor, executive and crew member to capture the essence of Mr. Child’s books and luckily Lee has been there and will continue to be there, to help guide us along the way in this series. He is the pulse of Reacher.”

Lee Child will serve as executive producer, along with Don Granger (Mission Impossible Fallout,Jack Reacher 2012), Scott Sullivan (Scorpion)  and Christopher McQuarrie (director ofMission Impossible Rogue NationandMission Impossible Fallout,Jack Reacher 2012).

David Ellison (The Ryan Initiative,Top Gun: Maverick), Marcy Ross (Jack Ryan,Altered Carbon)  and Dana Goldberg (Gemini Man,Six Underground) will be executive producers forSkydance. Carolyn Harris (The Prestige) will supervise the show for them. Lee Child declared, “By now I know these guys, andReacheris in the perfect hands, believe me.”

The ex U.S. Army Military was portrayed by Tom Cruise on the big screen forJack Reacherin 2012 andJack Reacher: Never Go Backin 2016. Even though the action star was ready to come back for a third movie, Lee Child wanted to head towards another direction.

In November 2019, Child declared to the Sunday Times, “Cruise was reluctant. He had his own investment in it, he was going to argue against it. It sounds extremely patronizing but I think it’s good for him. He’s too old for this stuff. He’s 57, he needs to move on, transition to being a character actor. He could get another 20 years out of it. He has the talent. He’s a terrific guy, very considerate, good fun.”
