PlayStation users have got a new rating system that allows them to rate games on a scale of 1-5 stars. They can leave ratings for the games they own, have downloaded, or added to their library on PS4 and PS5. Players can visit the PS Store, and click on “View Product”. Go to the “Ratings” tab and rate games.
The game’s current rating will then appear and players can engage with it to get more details about the game. It also reveals how many people voted for each score and players will also not be able to rate half-stars or leave written reviews.
PlayStation Feature Highlights the Threat Of Review-Bombing
This new rating system will help players choose games that are highly rated. But PlayStation seems to have rolled out to tackle review-bombing that makes games its victims. Review-bombing is very common and several games have faced it for minimal issues, resulting in them being dragged down the charts.
A new post by kjngamer, a PlayStation gamer on X (formerly Twitter) reveals a major difference between the PlayStation stars rating and Metacritic user rating. Players who can rate the game on PlayStation must have bought the game whereas any user on Metacritic can rate a game out of 10.

The user shared the PS and Metacritic ratings of big games such asThe Last of Us 2,Horizon Forbidden West,Grand Turismo 7, andDeath Stranding (Director’s Cut).The Last of Us 2has a Metacritic rating of 5.8 whereas it has 4.36 stars on PlayStation andHorizon Forbidden Westhas a 7.9 Metacritic rating whereas it has 4.66 stars on PS.
Gran Turismo 7has a shocking Metacritic rating of 2.3 and the wasn’t at its best upon launch, facing issues with AI and players considered it boring out of multiplayer. Still, the game has a PS rating of 4.14 stars. Users on Metacritic ratedDeath Stranding (Director’s Cut)7.4 and the game has a rating of 4.65 stars on PS.

There was even a difference in ratings ofGod of War Ragnarökon Metacritic and PlayStation. The game is rated 4.82 on PS and was rated 8.0 on Metacritic. This is evident in how there is a difference of opinion between players who play the games and those who just rate the game without even laying their hands on it. This is usually due to hate or envy for different reasons.
Metacritic – A Review-Bombing Haven!
Metacritic usually suffers from review-bombing as there is no check for players leaving a review and they can rate as low as they want from a scale of one to ten. Players can also create multiple accounts and rate the game as many times as they can. Many PS exclusive titles have been review-bombed affecting them commercially.
Bethesda’s biggest releaseStarfieldwas also review-bombed including silly reasons such as it was available exclusively on Xbox and PC. The game at one point was sitting at 49th place on Metacritic charts. PlayStation hasn’t officially announced this rating system so it’s yet to be seen how they plan to tackle review-bombing with this new feature.
