Cillian Murphy is a widely recognized actor, having worked in massive hits like Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knighttrilogy, Inception, andDunkirk. as well as playing one of the most iconic gangsters on television, Thomas Selby, in the showPeaky Blindersfor nearly nine years. His characters have a sort of depth that is quite unique to his acting, making him incredibly well-respected.

Murphy has another movie with Christopher Nolan,Oppenheimer, coming out later this year. This movie has been said to be a blockbuster and could outshine Nolan’s previous work. With such heights of fame, one must assume that Murphy would be recognized everywhere he goes, and be confident in his own capabilities, but that does not seem to be the case.

What Does Cillian Murphy Feel About Fame?
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone,Cillian Murphytalked about what it is like going out into the public after being in so many blockbuster hits and how he feels about all of the popularity he has acquired.
The actor said,

“[Fame] can ruin experiences because it fetishizes everything: you can be walking down the street and someone takes a picture like this is a fu**ing event. It kind of destroys nuance and human behavior, but that’s part and parcel of it.”Murphy added,“I don’t really partake. I don’t go out, I’m just at home mostly, or with my friends, unless I have a film to promote. I don’t like being photographed by people. I find that offensive.”
The actor stated that popularity ruins experiences for him. He does not like the idea of someone shoving a camera in his face while he is simply trying to go about his day. He believes this to be quite invasive and went on to say that these actions destroy human behavior.

Cillian Murphy on Ireland vs Rest of The World
Murphy went on to say that he believes that fame evaporates with regularity. He explained this by stating that in Ireland, his home country, he does not have to deal with photographers and invasive paparazzi, because people are just simply used to it.
“I’m around here all the time and no one gives a fu**ing shit,”Murphy said about the interview location, which was set up in his home country of Ireland.

“Nobody cares. I go to the shop. It dissipates. But if…one of the guys from ‘Succession’ walked in here, I’d be all intimidated and shaky. When you’re confronted with someone you’ve invested a lot in, or you think is amazing, the encounter is strange.”
The star went on to talk about how people who see him on the outside, assume his real-life personality would be similar to his character inPeaky Blinders. They expect him to have Thomas Shelby’s swagger and mystery. He feels that people become underwhelmed to find out that that is not the case. This makes Cillian Murphy upset sometimes, as he feels that he can’t provide, as he is extremely different from his character.
