So afterModern Warfare 3was confirmed to be nothing more that DLC forModern Warfare 2, Activision have decided to push back on this stating that this isn’t the case.

The worst kept secret of the year was that this years Call of Duty offering would be MW3, much to no-one’s surprise. But something just doesn’t feel right about the upcoming game. Sure there was confirmation about being able to carry over skins, weapons and progression from MW2 to MW3 but was this just a smokescreen to appease fans?

What’s being said about Modern Warfare 3?
It was off the back of the 2022 Bloomberg Report that there were claims that a new Call of Duty title wouldn’t be completed in time for 2023. And at the time Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claimed that plans were to ‘release more MW2 content to fill in the 2023 gap’. So this only goes to further what was said previously aboutModern Warfare 3being little more than DLC forModern Warfare 2.
And on a Dev blog there was a post ahead of MW3’s Warzone reveal event and if you read between the lines, it feels like they are pointing out the the upcoming game won’t be the premium COD release that we’ve come to expect;

“Our vision to deliver back-to-back Modern Warfare games has been years in the making, From the start of development across both Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III, Sledgehammer Games has worked closely with Infinity Ward to create a blockbuster sequel in the Modern Warfare series, featuring the return of iconic heroes and villains alike.”

It may be that the next part of this statement is more telling than the previous and with it, the acknowledgement thatModern Warfare 3won’t feel as recognisable as your annual Call of Duty offering;
“Each title release represents an epic experience that stands on its own in terms of unique gameplay and innovation. Modern Warfare 3, however, pays off what the previous titles have set up.”

But as far as we can see, it’s pretty much same old. Sure there is the new campaign, new maps and Zombies has come to MW for the first time, which is a bit of a surprise. However, there’s nothing new. It’s all been done before and done to death.Modern Warfare 3in whatever iteration we get, is just a re-hash of what’s already come before it and fans may just be getting tired of it.
But bless them, Activision are trying to win the fans over. They have claimed that the real body of theModern Warfare 3will be the competitive multiplayer, describing it as ‘different’ as opposed to ‘new’. They then royally shot themselves in the foot by listing bullet points about what they’re most excited about with the title and the only mention of multiplayer was a new perk system and new gun parts. Way to sell it guys!!
No matter what is said, we’ll learn more about the upcoming title when the reveal happens in a few hours time.
