However, she was kind enough to entertain his wish!

“I’m a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan…And I can see her doing a good job with this role, so we went to talk about it and everything. She was just doing me a courtesy to see me, I think. She was doing Joy. She had to do all this publicity on the Hunger Games movies. There was just no f**king way in the world that she was available.”
Tarantino then went and gave the role to Jennifer Jason Leigh and he sure is proud of that decision.

“Having said that, I’m glad I didn’t cast somebody that young. I think I absolutely positively made the right choice, as far as the ages of the characters.”

Jennifer Jason Leigh Talks about Working with Quentin Tarantino
Talking to The Guardian, Leigh couldn’t stop singing praises for the renowned filmmaker. She stated that gettingThe Hateful Eightwas“beyond surreal.”Coming to the topic of the film’s director, Leigh went on to say that Tarantino wasn’t like others as he didn’t look at an actor’s recent work and rather his entire“body of work.”
“A lot of times, this town, or this business, really only looks at your last three projects. Quentin is the exception to that. He looks at your whole body of work…When he looks at you, he doesn’t see just what you did the last two years.”
Leigh continued praising the director and stated that he reminded her what she was like as an actress. It sure looks like Lawrence passed up a hell of an opportunity to star in a Tarantino film and live Leigh’s experience firsthand!
The Hateful Eightis available to stream on Netflix.
