Along with his new film,The Killer,David Fincher is making a comeback with several of his stories as well. In his recent interviews, he has opened up about his plans for a canned World War Z sequel and aSpider-Manmovie that didn’t really interest the studio. While he lost the opportunity to work with a Marvel superhero, he did collaborate with a Marvel star Tilda Swinton in his latest film,The Killer.

Known for portraying the Ancient One inDoctor Strange, Swinton stars as an assassin in The Killer and has impressed the film’s director with her dedication to her craft, particularly for enduring multiple takes of a scene in freezing cold.

David Fincher Praises Actress Tilda Swinton

David Fincher’sThe KillerfollowsMichael Fassbenderin the titular role as he battles his employers on an international manhunt. One of the rivals he faces in the process is The Expert, portrayed by the 62-year-old British actressTilda Swinton.

During his recent interview withThe Guardian, Fincher shared that theSuspiriastar had to film a challenging night-time scene in the snow for the movie. And she shot multiple takes of the scene at around negative 15 degrees. He said,

“We shot probably 26 takes of that. It was really complicated. But she’s so game. It was probably 15 degrees below zero. Her pockets were filled with those little warming things. She was like the Michelin woman.”

While MCU fans might recognize her as the Ancient One, Swinton is also known for her work in movies such asSnowpiercerandWe Need to Talk About Kevinand has won an Oscar for her performance in the 2007 thriller filmMichael Clayton.

David Fincher Pitched aSpider-ManMovie

Before Sam Raimi introduced Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in his 2002 film, David Fincher had his own plans for a movie about the Marvel superhero. During his interview, the filmmaker revealed what he had in mind for that movie and why it never saw the light of the day.

Fincher said that he pitched his idea to the studio in 1999, which did not include Spider-Man’s origin story, where he gets bitten by a radioactive spider.

“They weren’t f*cking interested,”he said before adding,“They were like: ‘Why would you want to eviscerate the origin story?’ And I was like: ‘’Cos it’s dumb?”

While he acknowledged that Spider-Man’s origin story is special to many, he had a different creative vision and wanted to explore the character rather than just focusing on his origin story. Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man, which included the origin story of the superhero, went on to be a huge hit, making $825 million at the worldwide box office.

The Killeris playing in theatres and will be available on Netflix from July 29, 2025.
