It has been a long time since Henry Cavill found the opportunity to talk about the things that he loves with the people who would understand. For the longest time since his controversial absence from the DCEU’sJustice Leaguesaga, the world had come to a standstill where people were suffering in their tragically self-imposed limbo – a place where Cavill’s Superman simultaneously existed and was retired.

In the aftermath of Joss Whedon’sJustice League, a lot of the parties involved were unhappy with the results, Cavill included. So when he found someone to talk to who would understand, he made his opinions heard about his duty and obligation toward telling the true story of Superman.

Henry Cavill’s Unwelcome Beginning and Fated Farewell

In 2021, the fateful release ofJustice League(Snyder’s Cut) on HBO Max launched the third act of the drama. The fans reached a collective compromise where they could get to witness the director’s vision for the epic superhero saga in return for the pacification of their tortuous clamoring and excruciating protests against the studio that was on the verge of creative and economic bankruptcy.

However, in 2019, a couple of years before petitions could plague the WB execs and DC producers, or the pandemic could allow people too much time in their hands to rehash the past, or the studio could duke it out about the pros and cons of lettingZSJLbe made available for streaming, the world was still cloaked in doubt and uncertainty about Superman’s return. ButHenry Cavill, a believer as ever, was still highly optimistic about his days as Superman not being over (yet).

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine […] I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”

Two years after his fated words,Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguewould find its way to the surface – allowing the director’s vision a small taste of glory before the cataclysmic collapse of the entire DCEU. The repercussions echoed across the globe and the bitter emotions of the crowd did nothing to help Warner Bros.’ futuristic plans that were already in motion.

In the aftermath, the rebuilding of an entire universe of characters and stories thatJames Gunnand Peter Safran were then attempting to successfully execute for DC to finally have a sustainable future was met with extreme resistance and vehement backlash.

While Henry Cavill may be a man of many talents, he hardly ever puts his diverse skills and talents to use in taking up more projects that flaunt his abilities beyond fighting aliens and monsters. Among one of the rare occasions where the world was distinctly blessed with something other than the otherworldly gods and mutants was inThe Man From U.N.C.L.E.and within the scope of that single movie, Cavill put on display his pure charm, wit, and wry humor with a hint of mischief, suave 007-esque personality, the essential skill of looking dapper while taking down villainous organizations and being tortured, and of course, his undiscovered and underrated comedic timing.

While his performance in the 2015 Guy Ritchie film (which managed to overshadow his co-stars and absolutely impress Quentin Tarantino) is yet to receive a much-awaited and much-deserved follow-up withHugh Grant, Cavill is more interested in representing the underdogs of the world of entertainment: the characters from high fantasy novels and tabletop miniature wargames. To the world’s population and the kid in him who got bullied, he is doing god’s work by making the things that children usually get picked on for and called “geeks” in the schoolyard, cool again.

Unfortunately, his time representing Geralt is over too. As the actor moves on from portraying the mutant do-gooder with almost too much selfless dedication and loyalty, he picks up a highly-coveted deal with Amazon Studios to adapt the Warhammer tabletop miniature game into a live-action series at the streamer. Cavill also serves as an executive producer on the adaptation, claiming that he’ll ensure the show stays true and honest to the source.

The WitcherSeason 3, Henry Cavill’s final foray as the titular character, premieres on Netflix in two parts: Volume 1: June 19, 2025, and Volume 2: June 24, 2025.
