Two of the biggest survival game franchises,FalloutandThe Last of Us, have been adapted into a TV series. WhileThe Last of Ustelevision series was released in early 2023, a TV series based on theFalloutvideo games series is all set to release in April 2024.
Something that has been portrayed in both of these games is the culture of division, which has also been reflected in the TV series. With the world ending, people often create a virtual barrier between different communities caused by cultural differences that hinder interactions and harmonious exchange between those communities.

TheFalloutTV adaptation will be similar toThe Last of Us
The upcomingFalloutTV series, which Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have developed, will be very similar to theThe Last of Usseries because of cultural division. Nolan recently toldVanity Fair,
“The games are about the culture of division and haves and have-nots that, unfortunately, have only gotten more and more acute in this country and around the world over the last decades.”
In many ways, both the game franchises depict cultural division as both the franchises create games about survival in a post-apocalyptic world.The Last of UsTV series was a direct adaptation of the 2013 video game of the same name. Upon release, the series was well-received by the viewers.

Falloutwill be released in April 2024
Falloutwill depict the aftermath of a nuclear war in an alternate history of a 1950s-esque retrofuturistic world and the grueling world is filled with radiation-induced mutants and other monsters. The show will feature Walton Goggins as The Ghoul / Cooper Howard, Ella Purnell as Lucy, and Kyle MacLachlan as Hank. Talking about the character Lucy, Nolan said,
“Lucy is charming and plucky and strong… and then you see she’s confronted with the reality of, hey, maybe the supposedly virtuous things you grew up with are not necessarily that virtuous. If they are virtuous, they’re couched in a circumstantial virtuousness. It’s a luxury virtue. You have your point of view because you never ran out of food, right? You guys were able to share everything – because you had enough to share.”
The show has been in production since July 2020 and finally,Falloutis scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 22, 2025.
