Marion Cotillard

During the promotion ofAllied,Marion Cotillardappeared for an interview with the French outlet, Allocine. In conversation, they stumbled upon the topic ofChristopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knighttrilogy and her character, Talia Al Ghul’s death. Cotillard had a lot to say about the negative reception of the scene. She stated,

Christopher Nolan

“We are all in the same boat, and if sometimes it gets out of control, then everyone is involved. Sometimes there are failures, and when you see this on screen, you’re thinking: ‘Why? Why did they keep that take?’ But either you blame everyone or nobody. But I thought people overreacted, because it was tough to be identified just with this scene. When I’m doing the best I can to find the authenticity in every character that I’m playing, it’s tough to be known just for this scene.”

Cotillard continued that it was okay to laugh about it, however, one should realize that there are worse things out there. She added that in her opinion, the reaction was disproportionate.

“Yes, it is important to know how to laugh about this, and also, there are worse things in life. Even if there are things that can hurt you. But I wasn’t really affected by this. I just thought the reaction was disproportionate and it helps to laugh about it.”

In the middle of the interview, a clip of Cotillard on a French TV show is shown where she was part of a rap battle. Her opponent sneakily dissed her death in the movie stating,“the only thing worse than you rap is your death in Batman.”Well, it looks like the ghost of her past is not going to stop haunting her anytime soon!

Since Nolan and Cotillard had already worked together inInception, the actress was an easy choice for the filmmaker. She was simply offered the role. However, while the offer made her super happy, initially she was also a little sad, as her schedule wouldn’t allow her to take on the role. Luckily for her, Nolan was ready to work around her schedule.

Cotillard told The Hollywood Reporter,

“I was so happy when he asked me to be part of the experience and at the same time, I was a little sad because I couldn’t make it…And so we have this conversation on the phone and he told me, ‘Well, I’m in the middle of the writing and I’m gonna try to make it work.’ Of course, I feel so lucky that he wanted to work with me again and that he could do this for me.”

Talking to The Independent, Cotillard stated that she loved working with Nolan as he“fosters a great feeling of family on the set, even on such a huge movie.”She added that his“intelligence and imagination”has the ability to take people on an“unbelievable adventure.”Cotillard sure had a great time on the sets ofTDKR,it’s just unfortunate how her performance got reduced to a single awkward scene.
