AsHouse of the Dragon’sfirst season comes to an end in October, the question of how many seasons would the show have comes into play. Author of the original book,Blood and Fire,George R.R. Martin states that the show would require a minimum of four seasons to be able to complete its storyline.

The story has finally reached the cusp of the Targaryen Civil War, leading to an entire turn of power play between Rhaenyra and Aegon Targaryen, both fighting for the throne of the House Targaryen. Its parent showGame of Throneshad a run of eight seasons and a rollercoaster plot that kept many on the edge of their chairs.

House Of The Dragon’s Undecided Runtime
The first season ofHouse of the Dragonis about to end with the show being set 200 years before the events ofGame of Thronestook place.George R.R. Martinstated that much like the long-running parent show, this too would require at least four seasons of ten episodes each to properly flesh out their story whereasGame of Thronestook 8 seasons for the same.
“Wish we’d had more time to explore the relationship between Rhaenyra and Ser Harwin, the marriage of Daemon and Laena and their time in Pentos, the birth of various and sundry children and everything else we had to skip.”

Even though the show has drifted a lot from the books, the story remains the same for the most part. The limitations provided by a shorter run with only ten episodes are well known by the author, but he also conveys how no matter what, they would still be able to play out the entire story just as beautifully as it was written for the books.

The Fans React To House Of The Dragon Being Half The Length Of Game Of Thrones
Although the fans are conflicted seeing the multiple time jumps, they understand that it was necessary for the show starringMatt SmithandEmma D’Arcyto be able to fit all the important aspects within a certain frame. Some characters may have also been omitted, but that would not interfere with the storyline itself.

They also seem to appreciate how having lesser seasons would avoid stretching out plots that could easily be covered within a few episodes. Some enjoy the first season so much that hearing thee run length of the show saddened them as they wanted more seasons with the characters they admire.
I hope they listen this time, George warned them GOT needed 10+ seasons

I think we’re gonna be immersed in the “Game of Thrones world” for the rest of our adult lives.

Having four seasons would focus precisely on the Targaryen story and their history without drifting and focusing on plots more than needed. The latter seasons would naturally gain just as much hype asGame of Thronesdid. The author’s vision for the show might just be the right path for the series and its ever-rising fame.
