Shazam is one of the underrated characters that currently exists in the DCU. Because there hasn’t been a major crossover event planned afterJustice League, Shazam hasn’t got any real team up so far. He should have been connected to Black Adam, but Dwayne Johnson was more interested in battling Superman. So, Shazam has been limited to his own solo movies till now. But Billy Batson would get integrated with other DC properties afterFury of the Godsas James Gunn maps out a 10-year plan. We should expect quite a few team-ups.
Asher Angel Teases The Future of Shazam!
While we wait forShazam! Fury of the Gods, it will be interesting to see what’s in store for the character beyond the upcoming sequel. James Gunn is building a 10-year narrative for future DC movies, so Shazam is supposed to play a crucial role in that. And in a recent interview withJosh Wilding, Billy Batson actor Asher Angel also talked about Shazam’s future.

Angel said that he’s“ready for Shazam to be integrated with some other superhero movies:”
“Man, I feel really good with Peter [Safran] and James coming on board. I mean, they’re obviously super talented, and super passionate and, I love how they’re creating this 10-year plan. And I think the DC Universe is going to be… there’s a lot of special movies to come and I’m just ready for Shazam to be integrated with some other superhero movies…”
Shazam! Fury of the Godsis supposed to have a cameo from Wonder Woman this time. So, there’s one team up right there.

The Future of Billy Batson
Wonder Woman’s appearance and a rumored Superman appearance inFury of the Godsshould setShazamup for a Justice League team-up. He should be recruited into the squad for sure now. And because the kids are growing up very fast, it’ll be important for James Gunn and co to put them into use quickly from here on out. Maybe a Shazam! 3 or another crossover movie involving the character should happen within the next 2-3 years.

While we mostly look at Zachary Levi as the face of theShazam!franchise, we need to keep in mind that young Asher Angel who plays Billy Batson is the one who will be taking over in the future. Back inShazam!, Grace Fulton played the younger version of Mary Bromfield while Michelle Borth played the older Lady Shazam. But now inFury of the Gods, Grace Fulton has taken over for Lady Shazam as well because her character has grown into the right age. So in the future, the same should happen for Billy Batson too as Asher Angel might take over as the older Shazam. But for the next 3-5 years, we will be sticking to Levi as Shazam. He will be the one who appears in future crossovers and makes cameos in other movies.
