Ezra Miller’s solo film,The Flash,is all set to hit the theatres real soon. As if a solo Flash film wasn’t enough, the excitement sky-rocketed when it was announced that Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will be reprising their roles as Batmen. On top of that, fans will also get to see Sasha Calle play the role of a much-loved Kryptonian, Supergirl.

Sasha Calle

While the film has a general positivity around it, some fans weren’t too fond of the fact that Sasha Calle was playing Supergirl as she didn’t look the part. The OG Supergirl, as we know, is blonde and Sasha Calle is a brunette. A fan tried to imagine what the actress would look like with the comic-accurate characteristics of the superhero. However, the edit is being deemed racist by a lot of people as fans call the act out on Twitter.

In order to makeSasha Calle’s Supergirl look more like the classic Kara Zor El, a fan edited her with blonde hair and swapped out her Supergirl suit to be more comic-accurate as well. However, fans were quick to point out something they thought was inappropriate in the edit. Twitter is calling out the editor for changing Calle’s skin color. Here’s what they are saying:

Like do I think Sasha Calle could pull off blonde? Yes. Do I think wanting her to be blonde in a movie where Barry Allen is a brunette with no one complaining is racist? Also yes. Especially since they lightened her skin.

I was confused for a sec on how having blonde hair was white washing until I saw the deliberate skin tone difference💀💀

Damn, don’t we have enough fake blonds in Hollywood? Leave her just as she is. She doesn’t have to look like the limited color pallet of an old comic book. 🙂

the hair is fine but to lighten her complexion…. that’s just vile.

However, there are always two teams in a debate. Some fans stated that the editor had no intentions of changing Calle’s skin color and they simply brightened her photograph. This might have led to the actress appearing way more light-skinned than she actually is. Which side of the debate are you on, though?

As far as being comic-accurate goes, while Calle’s Supergirl does not look like the classic version of the character, she sure does look exactly like Cir-El, an alternate Supergirl.

There are Two Sides to the Story

Owing to all the backlash, the editor himself had to speak out and give a clarification on his behalf. He stated that he didn’t touch Calle’s skin color at all and that he’s a Latino himself, just like the actress.

“I made this as a fun edit to make Sasha Calle look like a more classic Kara Zor El and people are accusing me of whitewashed. I just edited the hair and suit and did not edit her skin any shape or form. As a Latino myself I would never condone anything like that at all. Please do not be misinformed. I used an app to simply brighten the picture and obviously she will look different under different lighting.”

A lot of fans are on his side saying that some people are just looking for things to be angry about, despite everything being fine. What are your thoughts on the ordeal? Is the editor the one to blame or are people just overreacting?

You will be able to see Calle’s Supergirl in full force soon asThe Flashis all set to release on June 03, 2025.
