Ever since the official announcement ofMortal Kombat 1at the PlayStation Showcase, some fans have been losing their minds with anticipation for the upcoming sequel. Plenty have given their opinions on what we’ve seen so far, with some hazarding guesses – educated or otherwise – as to why other surprises will be in store for us between now and the game’s launch.

Except it turns out we’re all incredibly slow. At least compared to one user on Reddit that is. In a Reddit post a year ago – now deleted, but screenshotted below -, one user posited their predictions/leaks for whatMortal Kombat 1would look like. Referred to asMortal Kombat 12in the post, either this is an incredibly lucky guess on pretty much every point, even down to features names, or this is the leaking of the game from someone in the know. If you’re wanting to go into the game unspoiled, stop reading now.

Mortal Kombat 1 a Year Ago to Now – What’s Changed?

Imagine either leaking or correctly predicting everything aboutMortal Kombat 1a year ago. Either someone has too much time on their hands, or they were heavily involved in the development in the game.

Leaks wouldn’t be anything new to NetherRealms, as thanks to several leaks ofMortal Kombat 1in the run up to the PlayStation Showcase, every man and his dog knew about the game’s appearance at the show, but they didn’t know everything at least.

A new reboot/reset of the series, that completely changes or alters events, characters and even the established lore/history of the franchise,Mortal Kombat 1gives the developer a clean slate to work with, whilst still using thirty years of experience with the franchise. Set in a new timeline,Mortal Kombat 1will follow Liu Kang as he finds and trains a new group of fighters to ward off a new evil, although any more details than that are scarce at the moment.

The leak itself though seems to have gotten nearly everything we do know so far correct, though. As mentioned, the original post has long since been deleted from the dedicated Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit, but it is below if you want to see it.

As you can see, the post correctly guesses the surprising news that Sub-Zero and Scorpion are now brothers, according to recently released character bio’s, and that the Sub-Zero we have in the new timeline is Bi-Han, the original; it says that Shang Tsung, long time antagonist and recurring villain, will appear with Damashi, a character who hasn’t been seen since 2004’sMortal Kombat: Deception. We can only imagine at the time of posting the amount of raised eyebrows at that one.

The post continues on and correctly posits the inclusion of Kameo’s, not only getting the name correct, but asserting they’ll work on the same basis asMortal Kombat’stag assists, just with more to them, which is an impressive shot to make, and then brings up General Shao, who, unlike in previous games, is not a Khan this time around.

Returning to the Deception run of leaks, the post mentions Havik, another returning character, who will have a hugely different backstory, this time being a singer in a band before his eventual transformation to a more familiar character we recognise.

Lastly, it mentions a map mode that’d “function similarly to World of Light”,quickly following it with a disclaimer that this mode is the least fleshed out, therefore may not even make the final cut. No map editor/creator mode has been disclosed, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be. Colour us intrigued.

For a year old leak to get this much correct is either very lucky or very promising with regards to what else we have waiting to be announced. The closer we get to release on September 19th, the more excited we’re all getting in the office here, but will you be picking upMortal Kombat 1when it releases? Let us know in the comments!
