Trying to capitalize on Brendan Fraser’s recent Oscar win, Universal Pictures seems to be prepping to bring back the actor and the director Stephen Sommers together for a new offering inTheMummyseries. Universal tried bringing back the series with Tom Cruise’s film, but the studio’s Dark Universe debut didn’t go as planned.

It has been over a decade since Brendan Fraser took on the supernatural in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the movie that took Rick O’Connell’s adventures to China. Sommers, who was a producer for the third installment, is eager to return to the series. However, he has one condition to start anotherMummyproject.

Stephen Sommers WantsThe MummyFilm To Be Set In Egypt
Stephen Sommersasserted his view that the next film in the franchise should take place in Egypt. He also noted that it’s not necessary that the entire film has to be set in Egypt. He referred to the second film as an example, where the filming began in Ancient Egypt and then shifted to London, which he believed was an enjoyable experience.
Stephen Sommers toldSYFY WIRE:
“To me, it has to be [in Egypt] It doesn’t have to all be in Egypt. That’s why with the sequel … the beginning starts off in Ancient Egypt and then we go to London for the whole first act. And it’s very adventurous. [I thought] London at night and all this stuff could be very adventurous and fun, but we have to get back to Egypt. Like Tarzan movies, you want him to be in the jungle.”
“That’s just my personal opinion, but that’s the thing. I just love adventure movies. So yes, if I get a third Mummy movie, you’d have to have it in [Egypt]. I don’t know what percent, I’d have to think about it, but yeah, it has that feel.”

When asked about the possibility of reuniting withBrendan Fraserfor another film inThe Mummyseries, Sommers jokingly said that he is yet to be approached for it. He also recognized Brendan Fraser’s well-deserved comeback in Hollywood, particularly after his Oscar-winning role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale.

WillThe MummyOG Cast Return For Another Film?
If Stephen Sommers manages to bring back the original cast ofThe Mummy, the big question would be who will they take on this time. Will Arnold Vosloo also make a comeback as the corrupted priest, or will the director go with a new villain?
Sommers added:
“I don’t know. I’d probably do a different [villain]. I love Arnold Vosloo, he’s one of my best friends. I talk to Arnold all the time, but I think you’d have to do something [different]. Bringing him back for the sequel, it really worked and made sense and the rules worked. But sometimes, you just have to change things up a little bit. So I don’t know, I haven’t really thought about that.”
Sommers hinted that he would go with a new villain, asserting that while he likes Arnold Vosloo’s interpretation, bringing a new character would be necessary.
