Stranger Thingshas been Netflix’s most dominant show. While Season 4 of the record-breaking show premiered in May last year, fans have ardently waited for another season. The Duffer brothers, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, however, issued a statement announcing that the series’ Season 5 filming has been halted due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, which has already affected several productions.

Stranger Thingsfans were ardently waiting for the next season of Netflix’s record-breaking series, but a recent announcement by theDuffer brothershas left everyone disappointed as the unrest between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers continues to take over several productions.

Per the statement, Season 5 filming has been halted due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. The news was shared by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer on Twitter. They wrote:
“Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out. #wgastrong”

The writing for Season 5 commenced in August 2022, just after the fourth season premiered. The hit series’ creators revealed that production of the next season season“is not possible”amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, demanding an end to writer’s“min-rooms”and pushing back against the lingering threat of generative AI.
WGA Strike Leaves Stranger Things’ Future Projects Looming
AfterStranger Thingsconcludes, the Duffer brothers aim at bringing an animated series, set in theStranger Thingsworld, to their global fans. Not only this but the franchise, which holds the record for being the most-watched English-language series (1.35 billion hours of watch time), is set to take over England’s theatre later this year.
As the filming of Season 5 remains halted until further notice, fans still have a lot to look forward to. It was reported that the show’s writer and co-executive producer, Kate Trefry has already penned a stage production spin-off,Stranger Thing: The First Shadow, which is set to premiere at the West End Pheonix Theatre in London.

TheMillie Bobby Brown-led series is also planning for a live-action spin-off, which continues to remain under development. But again, the Writers Guild of America strike has affected both, the amine series and the live-action spin-off as thousands of writers continue to chant outside studios, waving signs like“Can’t Netflix And Chill When Writers Have Bills.Other workers have also joined these writers, blocking production on sets.

Stranger ThingsSeason 5 was supposed to land as soon as early 2024. The previous seasons of the sci-fi series are streaming on Netflix.
