Back in 2019, Marvel fans were delighted to know that one of their favorite Avengers would be gearing up to portray one of the most eminent wrestling stars in the world, Hulk Hogan, in his biopic. But while the audience rejoiced at the prospect of Chris Hemsworth playing the retired wrestling legend, Hogan’s real-life foe, The Iron Sheik, was not pleased with the idea in the least.

The Iron Sheik Threatened to Suplex Chris Hemsworth

Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, more famously known by his ring name, The Iron Sheik, was perhaps one of the most renowned figures in the WWE universe. And if there’s anything more popular than his illustrious wrestling legacy, it was his infamous rivalry with Terry Bollea, aka, Hulk Hogan. So, whenChris Hemsworthwas announced to be depicting the latter in his forthcoming biopic, the late Vaziri had a lot to say about the casting.

Known for his scalding temper and furious wrestling persona, The Iron Sheik, who passed away just yesterday, did little to hide his displeasure about theThorstar playing Hulk Hogan in the untitled biopic. When the news came, the late wrestling icon went over Twitter to shout in all-caps at Hemsworth and threatened to suplex him when he chanced upon the MCU actor.

WWE

“Chris Hemsworth, you jabroni I swear to Jesus I suplex you when I see you remember who make the Hulkamania and is the real legend of the Earth.”

The Iron Sheik, who was the only Iranian champion to land the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983, was one of the most, if not the only, iconic WWF villains. It was, after all, his feud with Hulk Hogan that essentially catapulted the latter’s career into fame and recognition back in the ’80s.

When Will the Hulk Hogan Biopic be Released?

Not too long ago, rumors were swirling around regarding the potential shelving of the upcoming biopic with no concrete development seen on the project. While Hemsworth, 39, did confirm he would indeed be stepping into the lead role, little else is known about the venture besides the fact that acclaimed filmmaker Todd Philips would be sitting on the director’s chair.

With both the leading man as well as the director busy with new films, the biopic was believed to have come to an indefinite halt. Not to mention, Hemsworth himself seemed a little more than uncertain about whether or not the movie would materialize at all. He did, however, mention that it would most definitely be a good while before anything moved ahead with the film.

“That film’s a while away,”theExtractionstar toldComicbook.com.“That’s sort of in the development stage you know, and if that comes to fruition, great. Todd Phillips is brilliant. Haven’t ripped any shirts off yet, but you’ll be the first to hear about it when I do.”
