Ryan Gosling was on a hiatus. Over the past few years,The Notebookstar had not picked up a substantial number of roles. He started restricting himself to studio movies, a move which helped him make movies“he felt connected with”.Soon he would go on a break of four years. But all that is a story of the past. Gosling is back, and in an avatar that no one would have envisioned him in, essaying the role of Ken in the upcoming film,Barbie. Yet it can’t be said that everyone was satisfied with his casting in the role.

Ain’t he too old?
Following the announcement that Ryan Gosling was set to portray Ken in the upcoming Greta Gerwig film, a lot of people have been left curious about the studio’s decision to cast him as the male protagonist opposite Margot Robbie.
What is the sore point for his trolls? His age. TheDrivestar’s detractors contend that a person as old as him might not be the right fit for the role. Ken is supposed to be young, a man who is in the spring of his youth. Not a 42-year-old who has already had two kids.

Ryan Gosling knows what Ken is all about
The point has been at the back of people’s minds ever since the announcement was first made. The release of its theatrical trailer on 25th May 2023 served as a reminder of the age factor, resulting in renewed criticism being directed his way.
However, theBlue Valentinestar is not one to be bogged down by these criticisms. He knows that there is more to Ken than just his age. Director Greta Gerwig, when she was writing the plot had made up her mind to give an important role to Ken. She envisionsBarbieas a movie that strikes a delicate balance between funny and saddening. And in her eyes, Ken is the saddest and funniest of them all.

TheLa La Landstar knows what theLittle Womendirector has in mind for the doll whose profession for 60 years has been ‘beach’, and has the potential to do justice to the role. As for his trolls, he took the chance to show them the mirror. He said,
“Like you ever thought about Ken before this? If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.”
